Whitfield, a 1999 Pro Bowler, was a fixture on the Falcons offensive line that finished 14‐2 in the regular season. He then played for the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2004 season. He played for the Falcons from 1992–2003 before he was released by the team. Whitfield was drafted in the first round (eighth overall) of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Whitfield won a starting position as a true freshman and following his junior season, he declared his eligibility in the NFL Draft. He then played college football at Stanford University, where Dennis Green served as head coach. Whitfield played high school football at Banning High School in Wilmington, California, where he was teammates with Mark Tucker.
